Tin Tan y El Beisbol, Su Juego Favorito
Cuando pensamos en Tin Tan y el beisbol, no podemos evitar que nos venga a la mente: “Kiko Guanabacóa”, bueno, por lo menos así me pasa a mí y más ahora que mi esposo acaba de ver ganar a los Dodgers en la Serie Mundial del mes pasado. Y es que mi memoria no puede evitar irse a lo más divertido de lo que mi papá hizo, tanto en su vida personal como dentro de sus películas como fue el caso de: “El Mariachi desconocido” o “Tin Tan en la Habana”.
Cómo olvidar cuando los “cara pálida”, como Tin Tan les decía a la pareja de gringos, quienes le cosen dólares en el saco de pachuco y se lo llevan como camuflaje en el avión muerto de miedo hasta Cuba, se les escapa en pleno carnaval para terminar en “El Tropicana” al lado de Rosita Fornés cantando la canción “Piel Canela” y concluye en un campo de beisbol.
“La pelota”, como se le llamaba al beisbol en Cuba, tenía la fama de ser el país cuna de los mejores jugadores en aquellos tiempos y el personaje de Kiko Guanabacóa promovía a Cuba ser la sede de lo mejor del beisbol con un Tin Tan que, al no “dar una” como “Pitcher”, lo único que recibe es un golpe en la cabeza que lo regresa a la realidad de su amor por Lupita y también lo regresa a México donde los mariachis cantan.
Pero hablando de la vida real de Tin Tan, mi papá era amante del beisbol, mas que de el futbol, y eso lo sé porque nos contaba, que, en el 54, estando en Nueva York trabajando con Marcelo en el Teatro Hispano, su amigo Beto Ávila “Bobby”, quien era el “Jugador del año de la liga americana MLB” y jugador tres veces en el “All Star” de los Cleveland Indians, lo había invitado a verlo jugar al estadio de los Yankees, contra uno de los equipos de Nueva York, fue uno de los eventos más increíbles de su vida. Me parece que coincidió con La Serie Mundial de Beisbol de ese año.
También el beisbol era el juego favorito de los hermanos Gómez Valdés, pues es lo que se jugaba en casa. De ahí la anécdota de que ´Tin Tan dejó colgado de los tirantes en un árbol a su hermanoAntonio´. Mi tío Toño hoy lo confirma cuando lo platica durante sus entrevistas pues es el único que queda vivo de su generación.
Mi papá conocía todas las reglas y estrategias del juego porque le parecía un juego inteligente y divertido, tanto que ya para fines de los 60s, organizó un equipo de “Artistas” y “Cómicos” que jugaban con diversos equipos que se unían al juego. Recibían mucha publicidad e hicieron giras por toda la república. La idea que tuvo mi papá fue genial pues se iban integrando otros artistas que también amaban el juego de beisbol y a la vez ganaban buen dinero.
Por otra parte, la cinematografía mexicana pasaba por problemas, su situación era precaria. El Banco Cinematográfico ya no recibía los dineros cuando en tiempos pasados, países como Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Colombia y en especial Cuba mandaban muchos dólares para que las películas de Tin Tan les promoviera el turismo de su país. Ese fue el caso de la película “El Mariachi desconocido” donde se sabe que Cuba mandó algo así como ochocientos mil dólares solo para cambiarle el nombre a la película que ahora se anunciaba como “Tin Tan en la Habana”.
También Tin Tan recibió su buena parte de dólares por el cambio de nombre ya que en el contrato aparecía el nombre anterior. No hubo ambigüedades entre lo artístico y su vida privada, para mi papá el Beisbol fue su deporte favorito y le iba a los Indios de Cleveland en honor a Beto Ávila su querido y admirado amigo quien una década antes, le hiciera aquella invitación pues su equipo en ese entonces vivía sus mejores momentos.
